Winter oil prices a concern as Massachusetts hit hard by inflation on energy

Inflation’s impact on the state’s energy sector has some lawmakers sounding the alarm on the rising cost of heating oil, given that winter is just around the corner.

A new study from The Beacon Hill Institute for Policy Research, funded by the Fiscal Alliance Foundation, found that home heating oil has increased by 70% nationally.

“In just a few short months, we’re going to be facing a harsh winter in New England,” state Rep. Nicholas Boldyga, R-Southwick, said during a Wednesday video call discussing the study. “For me, I know that every time I go to fill my oil tank, it’s about $500. Not right now. That was before inflation.
